Absences
Reminder … New EISD Attendance Policy Eanes ISD now requires a note from the parents/guardians for all student absences. Please email [email protected] immediately regarding any absences your child may have. Include the student’s First and Last name with the date(s) and the reason(s) for the absence(s) and cc their teacher in the email. Any absence that does not have a note on file will remain unexcused on your student’s record until a note is received. If possible, please email before 11am to avoid the automated calls, emails, and texts from Eanes ISD when absent. After 3 unexcused absences, you will receive a phone call from me.
Any planned absences for 3 days or longer will require a completed Family Travel Advance Notification Form. Please submit this form to office staff at least 5 days prior to the absence.

Homework:
Second graders should spend no more than 30 minutes on homework each night. The students will receive reading homework Monday through Thursday. Don't forget the reading log! If your child completes their reading, they can always complete the "optional" math homework from school or practice math facts.
Classroom Expectations
Students in 2nd grade are expected to be respectful and responsible citizens of this school. Students are expected to know and abide by the classroom rules. We use a behavior calendar in 2nd grade as a tool to communicate with parents about daily behavior. No news is good news!
Take Home Folder
This folder will go home and come back every day! This is a key form of communication. Please make sure your child knows if there is something in their binder that I need to see in the morning. This is where you will find your student's nightly reading HW as well as any finished work that comes home. Try to clean these out nightly. Your student's behavior calendar will also be kept in their binder. Please get in the habit of checking this calendar daily. I encourage you to help your child try to remember their binder, but also know that it is the student’s responsibility.
Birthdays:
Student birthdays will be recognized in class. Parents are not allowed to send birthday treats of any kind to school. This is a school wide policy. Your child may pass out invitations in class if everyone in the class is invited or if all of the girls or all of the boys are invited. If you would like to invite a select few, please mail the invitations from home. This applies to students in other classrooms.
Snacks:
Second grade students will have a 10-15 minute snack break built into our daily schedule. Since we only have a short amount of time to eat snack, we ask that all snacks be easy to eat (no utensils necessary) and encourage your students to pack healthy snacks. If your child is bringing a lunch, please make sure it is clear which food is for snack and which food is for lunch. Your child may also choose to bring a water bottle to set at their desk. Please be sure that the water bottle does not sweat and that it closes.
